Save the dates should be sent 6-12 months prior to the wedding. You'll want to give people more notice, ideally 8-12 months, if:

  • You are planning a destination wedding
  • Guests may have a long way to travel
  • You are planning your wedding on a popular holiday weekend

You'll need to put your names, your wedding date, the location and information on who you are inviting on a save the date. Generally, addressing the letter to the people you are inviting is the best way to make it clear who is invited. You don't need to worry about RSVPs or specific details of the day yet, those are for the invitation.

No, save the dates are not normally sent to evening guests. As there is not much detail on a save the date, a person that you wish to only be an evening guest might assume they are invited to the whole day. This could lead to disappointment when they find out. Also, evening guests generally require less notice to attend.

A6 is the perfect size for a save the date. It's big enough to put in the details you need, but there's no need to go bigger as there isn't much information to include on a save the date.
